Diese eigentümlich deutsche Sehnsucht nach Vergangenheitsbewältigung und Sündenstolz führt dann zu den allseits beliebten Sonntagsreden, die in hübscher Regelmäßigkeit mit dem Satz „gerade wir als Deutsche…“ eingeleitet werden. Gerade wir als Deutsche dürfen uns dann jede Dummheit und Gemeinheit erlauben, solange sie im Kleid der moralischen Läuterung daherkommt.
